 William Coronado

I Want To Be, 2010, Oil on cut-out canvas, 28" X 30" (Collection of Artist).

Dominican-American artist Williams Coronado consistently creates innovative and "cutting-edge" imagery, which employs a radical postmodern style known as "Metaphorical Realism." Mimetically and poetically, this realistic "visual-narrative" mode furnishes symbolic representational-imagery (mimesis). For example, in the piece entitled I Want To Be, Coronado depicts an Afro-Latino young man holding the US flag "Old Glory" in front of him like a matador's muleta. This enigmatic image affords an innate visual-potential to inform the viewer about something important, or the capacity to tell a story. However, what is metaphorical in the representation is the fact that the image is open to various diverse interpretations. For more about Coronado's art
