The We Are You Project Documentary, directed by Duda Penteado and produced by Jinsing Productions, examines current Latino culture through the eyes of prominent U.S.-Hispanic visual artists, cultural leaders, and educators, including Raphael Montanez Ortiz (founder of El Museo Del Barrio); prominent Hispanic cultural activists, such as, Dr. Carlos Hernández and Mario Tapia, and leading visual artists, i.e., Hugo X. Bastidas, Raúl Villarreal, Carlos Chávez, Rosario D’Rivera, José Rodeiro and Josephine Barreiro, together with other distinguished Hispanic voices.
Penteado’s penetrating lens provides unique insights into contemporary Latino creativity and life, via a series of transcendent personal histories, aspirations, and visions that revolve around 21st Century Latino issues (i.e., immigration, identity, Latinization, transculturalism and estrangement) in both the USA, and throughout the world. The Maysles Cinema will screen the documentary from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
An afternoon reception is scheduled for 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., with welcoming remarks by Dr. Carlos Hernández (Co-Founder of We Are You Project) and Michael Foldes (Founder & Managing Editor of Ragazine.CC) followed by a musical interlude featuring Hiram Colon, the composer of the We Are You theme-song sung by teenage singing-sensation Sophia Angelica, of Nickolodeon’s Dora the Explorer. A poetry reading From 5:00-6:30 p.m. will feature seven members of the We Are You Poetry Project, emceed by the U.S. poet Alan Britt, who will introduce and read with the following internationally known poets: Michael Foldes, Dr. George N. Preston, Pablo Caviedes, Alex Lima, Colette Inez and Duda Penteado.
A Q-&-A moderated by Dr. Carlos Hernandez with director and We Are You Project Co-Founder Penteado will follow the screening. Joining Penteado in addressing audience questions will be We Are You artists Hugo Bastidas, Raúl Villarreal, Carlos Chávez, Rosario D’Rivera, José Rodeiro, Josephine Barreiro and others.

The We Are You Project traveling exhibition and documentary film represents the first comprehensive, coast-to-coast artistic overview of the current state of Latino socio-cultural, political and economic conditions in the 21st Century. The expression of these conditions are reflected in paintings and prints by thirty-five prominent, contemporary Hispanic artists whose trans-culture and pan-Latino heritage can be traced to many and diverse Ibero-American traditions, including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Spain and Portugal. Most importantly, each artist or their families have experienced the perspective of being an immigrant, refugee, migrant, expatriate or nomad who gratefully found a new home in the United States, and where over the course of years, attained professional success by expressing both their vision and unique personal stories. Ragazine.CC is a collaboration of emerging and established artists, writers, poets, musicians, photographers, travelers and interested others, with a goal to promote an eclectic selection of subject matter to an international audience. The name Ragazinewas coined in the mid-’70s in Columbus, Ohio, as the title of an alternative tabloid newspaper put together by a group of friends. It was revived in 2004 as Ragazine.CC. Ragazine.CC recognizes We Are You Project as an important element in the ongoing multicultural traditions that began with the vision of America’s founding fathers and continues to this day. We are pleased to co-host the event, which will help bring to light the many contributions of yet another ethnic wave to reach these shores.
