Rosario D'Rivera

Mujeres Unidas en Libertad (Women United In Liberty), 2011, airbrush, colored pencil, pen and ink on bristol, cut out and mounted on black board, detailed with gold leaf and Swavrovsky crystals., 22" x 28" (Collection of Artist).
"Rosario D'Rivera's piece, Mujeres Unidas en Libertad (Women United in Liberty) is dedicated to the brave struggles of all immigrant women, who have been tragically forced out of ancestral homelands, in particular Cuban-refugee women, who (over scores of years in the Cuban Diaspora) fearlessly support and maintain their family's strength. D'Rivera's image honors these heroic women that risked and sacrificed everything in order to obtain a better future and life for their loved-ones. The image exalts Latina creativity and ingenuity at making for their families "love filled" niches, places to call their own, as well as honoring their bold odyssey, searching for a place where freedom rings, a place to raise children with pride, a place ripe with opportunities, a place that generously opened its doors while other places refused to open theirs, a place called "The United States of America."
"Even though, in the 'land of opportunity,'frequently and historically, "The American Dream" has extracted an enormous toll from these intrepid pioneer-Latinas; consequently, for them, freedom came at a high price; yet, they were willing to pay it. Desirous of LIBERTY, they left their hearts, ancestral homes, and families, in order to selflessly pave a better road for their children. Today, their daughters, as well as all 21st Century immigrants stand upon their ground-breaking Latina shoulders!
"Hence, D'Rivera's Mujeres Unidas en Libertad (Women United in Liberty) glorifies all Latinas that have fought for freedom and a better life. On April 6, 2011, the artists asserted that this particular piece was:
"Personally dedicated to my mother and to all the women in my family who have sustained the unity of family despite the most violent and heart-wrenching of personal struggles."
